Guests at the Devonshire Arms Country House hotel in the Yorkshire Dales will receive a £50 (€60) “rain refund” if there’s a downpour during their stay. Prices start from £125 (€151) per person for an overnight stay based on two people sharing with dinner in the brasserie and a full Yorkshire breakfast. The offer is valid until the end of May.

Catch:The rain must fall between check-in at 2.30pm and check out at 11am. Hotel staff have the final decision.

* Killarney’s Brehon hotel is giving new retirees who are too young for free travel €10 each towards their travel costs whether they travel by train or car. Its midweek early retirees’ package, which includes two nights bed and breakfast, dinner and relaxation time in the Vitality Suite of the spa, costs from €135 per person sharing.

Catch:€10 is very welcome but a drop in the ocean if you're travelling a distance.
